Joomla!® is a powerful content management system. It apparently had its roots under development since the early 2000’s under other names. It finally evolved into Joomla!® around 2006.

WordPress appears to be the most popular of the Content Management Systems. Just like, Joomla!®, WordPress is a commonly used system of programs written in mostly PHP to serve up web pages. As with everything in life, there are pros and cons when it comes to using WordPress. Here are some – and this list is by no means exhaustive.
Pros of Using WordPress
If you are already adept at WordPress – or similar content management systems like Joomla – and a pretty computer savvy individual – then you will be all set with a WordPress website.
Just like in Joomla!®, updates to your WordPress website can be made whenever you choose – all you need is to have access to the Internet and a web browser (like Edge or Firefox or Internet Explorer or Chrome or Safari to name a few).
And also, like Joomla!®, there are no other expensive software packages you need to buy to use WordPress, unless you actually want to develop WordPress themes and plugins and websites yourself.
Cons of using WordPress
If you don’t know how to, you do have to learn how to use WordPress. We don’t tell people it’s necessarily simple and natural or intuitive to use, because in our experience dealing with many people who have moved in this direction, it isn’t. While making simple changes here and there is usually very easy and efficient, making large scale changes and altering themes and templates can be a daunting task for the inexperienced. We’re glad to take on those parts of your maintenance for you.
Updating and changes
Regardless of whether you are using Joomla or WordPress, you MUST make the time to make your updates. If you are like most of our web clients, you’re so busy now (doing your job which probably doesn’t include web development) that your days fly by. The odds are that you probably don’t have time to become more focused on learning something new just to upkeep your WordPress website. So we can handle any level of it for you that you need.
Just like with nearly all software, including Joomla!®, security updates are a fairly constant occurrence with WordPress and its plugins and its themes. And like Joomla!®, WordPress is open source software – meaning the software that WordPress is comprised of is essentially free to use. However, just like with Joomla!®, the ramifications (like finding your website has been hacked) of not keeping up with security updates in a WordPress website is not free to fix.
Worst case scenario
Finally, whether you have a Joomla!® or WordPress site and you blow it up because you did not take the time to back everything up prior to making changes to your website, it might cost a great deal to have a website developer recover or rebuild your WordPress site. Don’t Fix What’s NOT Broken

The final piece of advice I will offer here is a simple one we’ve all heard before: “Don’t fix what’s not broken.” If your Joomla!® site is working for you, it may just need a little sprucing up.
This is especially true if there is a lot of material in the site. It is often far less work (and therefore less expensive) to do a web-over to an existing site rather than starting from scratch on a new platform.
